Compliance Audit Committee

Compliance Audit Committees are required by the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 to consider all applications and reports with respect to alleged and apparent contraventions of the financial provisions of the Municipal Elections Act.

After the election, the committee will hear applications for compliance audits of the financial statements submitted by candidates and registered third party advertisers and consider reports submitted by the Town Clerk. The committee will decide whether to order an audit of any financial statements to ensure that campaign finance rules have been followed.

The Town of Cobourg is participating in a Joint Compliance Audit Committee with local municipalities in Northumberland, for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections. After the election, the Committee will hear requests for compliance audits of the financial statements submitted by candidates and registered third party advertisers. The committee will decide whether to order an audit of any financial statements to ensure that the campaign finance rules have been followed.
